Sex offender arrested after providing alcohol to minors

A 22-year-old man with a sex offense history out of Missouri was arrested Saturday night after a traffic stop.

Alexander John Snow, formerly of Maryville, Missouri, was charged with failure to obtain sex offender identification and providing alcohol to persons under 21-years-old.

Upper Keys Deputy Jose Hernandez was on patrol on near Mile Marker 92 in Tavernier at 8:45 p.m. when he saw a gray, Infiniti car fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign at Burton Drive and U.S. 1. Deputy Hernandez made a traffic stop. Inside the car, a 19-year-old man was driving. Snow was in the front passenger seat. Two girls, ages 15 and 16, were in the back passenger seat. Deputy Hernandez detected the odor of marijuana. Deputy Alexandria Palau also arrived on scene. All four people were removed from the car and the car was searched.

A box of 10 beer cans was found along with a bottle of rum. The rum was opened, but still mostly full. There were no open beer cans found in the vehicle. No marijuana was found.

The girls told the deputies that Snow bought all the alcohol. One of them told Deputy Palau that Snow was asking them if they wanted to go to Marathon and get a hotel room.

Checks were ran on all four people inside the car. Records indicated that Snow is a sex offender who registered in Monroe County in November, however he did not obtain a driver’s license or identification card stating the same. Snow was convicted when he was 19-years-old in Missouri of child molestation on a 14-year-old.

The 19-year-old male driver and the two female teens had no warrants. The parents of both girls were notified. They arrived on scene and took custody of the children. The 19-year-old was released at the scene.

Snow was taken to jail.
