Search warrant turns up drugs, gun

A 40-year-old Big Pine Key man was arrested Friday and charged with a litany of drug and weapons offenses following a search of his residence.

Steven Wayne McClelland was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, use of a structure for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance, five counts of possession of drugs without a prescription, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, trafficking in heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division Detectives, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and federal agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Custom and Border Protection executed a search warrant at a residence on the 29000 block of Magnolia Lane on Big Pine Key at approximately 5:38 a.m.

McClelland was inside the residence as well as a 42-year-old female who was not charged.

The following were located inside the residence:

  • A loaded .40-caliber Springfield handgun
  • 56 assorted pills and tablets without a prescription
  • 11.7 grams of amphetamines
  • 5.8 grams of heroin
  • 5.2 grams of marijuana
  • A glass vile that tested positive for cocaine
  • A electronic scale

McClelland has been a registered convicted felon since 2001. He has a history of gun- and drug-related offenses.

More charges could be pending.

McClelland was taken jail.
