‘ROUND THE ISLAND RACE

Key West, FL – March 9, 2021 – The Key West Community Sailing Center is proud to announce that it will host the 47th Annual ‘Round the Island Race on Sunday, March 21, 2021.

This is a call for all willing and able sailors to join us for this tremendous event. This is the 47th year Community Sailing has sponsored this event and it is always fun. Just watching the sailors capsize and swim their boats under the Cow Key Bridge brings laughter. Visible from many vantage points around our island, this race can be enjoyed by all.

The ‘Round the Island Race will leave from Community Sailing’s docks at 705 Palm Avenue, Key West. The course will be around Sigsbee Island, under the Cow Key Bridge, around Key West, through the northernmost Fleming Key Channel and back to the docks.

The skippers’ meeting begins at 8:00 AM and the race at 9:00 AM. The estimated finish time is 3:00 PM. Bring your boat to Community Sailing Saturday afternoon so it’s ready to go first thing Sunday. Community Sailing has a launching ramp if your boat is on a trailer.

Feel free to bring your own boat. Typical boat types include Hobie Waves, Sunfish, Lasers, Finns, 420’s, Flying J’s or any sailboat that can be capsized and floated under the Cow Key Channel Bridge. Community Sailing members may join a lottery for one of our boats or a crew position. Check the web site, www.keywestsailigcenter.org, for additional information.

Prizes will be awarded and a good time is certain. Gift certificates from our sponsor Schooner Wharf will also be awarded.

Registration is required. There is no entry fee but donations are encouraged and welcomed. To register, email [email protected] with captain’s name, email address, phone number, type of boat and whether it’s a Community Sailing boat and, if so, first and second choice of boat. Boats will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

The fresh air, sunshine and Community Sailing’s ongoing safety practices related to COVID-19, including face coverings and social distancing, make this a healthy environment for all participants.

Check our web site at www.keywestsailigcenter.org for additional information and updates.
