Rest Beach Restoration
The restoration of the sea wall and beach are underway at Rest Beach at the base of the Edward B. Knight White Street Pier. This vital restoration will restore the eroded sea wall and will replenish beach sand. In addition, a new stairway will provide easy access from the upland park area to the beach.
The plans to replenish the beach predate the destruction of Hurricane Irma, when time and tides had completely eroded the sand and were eating away at the upland part of the park. Though some sand was deposited by the storm, the upland area sustained damage. This project will enhance both the upland and beach areas.
When Rest Beach reopens in September, it will sport new walkways, covered picnic tables and benches, and new landscaping as well as new sand.
While the project is underway, there will be no access to the beach. However, nearby Higgs Beach provides all the amenities that beachgoers could desire.
