Rescue Tails / Noelle

It is often one of the most difficult decisions we make – when to get a new dog after losing our beloved family member. It’s a highly personal decision and there truly is no right answer. For some, the emptiness in their hearts and homes is too much and we find ourselves back at our local shelter in just a few days, or even weeks. For others, it can take months, or even years before the thought of bringing another animal home becomes a reality. For those of us who have truly loved a dog we know the truth: your own pet is never “just a dog.” Studies have shown the inter species bond between man and dog has evolved specifically for companionship. We mourn the loss of our pet as we would any other family member.
Kris lost not just one, but two of her beloved pack of four within just a few short months of each other. Following her own personal bereavement period she began to focus on her pack of two and decided against bringing home a new four-legged companion. It would be so much easier to travel with just two big dogs instead of four. At least, that was the plan, until Christmas time.
A litter of five black and tan Shepherd mix puppies were found abandoned in a box on the side of the road in Marathon. The young litter was placed in the loving hands of one of our foster families until they were ready for adoption. Staff at our Marathon Campus couldn’t escape the reality that one of these pups could be a perfect match for Kris. Not only did they have the “look” but it was getting harder and harder to deny that one special pup, Sally, looked just like Luna when she was young, and that Grace had been adopted around Christmas time. Could it be that this little abandoned puppy was meant to be with Kris?
No, Kris wasn’t “ready” but sometimes the right dog comes along at the right time. On Christmas Eve  in honor of Luna and Grace, Kris adopted Sally lovingly renaming her “Noelle.” Once again her home was filled with the pitter patter of puppy feet and the true healing could really begin.
