Rescue Tails / Mickey

At the Florida Keys SPCA, we do our best to ensure that the animals in our care receive plenty of love, attention and affection from staff and volunteers while they await their forever homes. Sometimes we have pets in our care who are more sensitive than others and may find shelter life difficult.

Recently, we noticed that Mickey, a dog at our Marathon campus, seemed to be depressed. Our typically cheerful, happy-go-lucky man just did not seem to be his usual self. Understanding that he could benefit from some extra attention and even pampering, we treated him to an extra special day. Our friends at Dogs en Vogue, a dog daycare, groomer and boutique, gifted Mickey with a complimentary day at the dog spa. It was just what he needed. Mickey was pampered and cheered up while playing with other dogs after his bath. Following his dog spa experience, our friend, Karen Thomas of Pawsitive Touch, came by and gave Mickey a thorough “healing touch for animals” session and lots of love. Karen inferred that Mickey was lonely, not for humans, but for other dogs. So, our Director of Operations brought her adopted puppy in for some play time, and that brightened his day!

A little extra attention from humans to animals goes a long way. It was not long after these special people lifted his spirits that Mickey was adopted. He now lives in Key West with his owner and enjoys treats, baths, and four walks a day! The two companions are happily attached.

Lift your spirits and those of an animal in need through adoption. For more information on meeting and adopting animals with plenty of love of give, please visit fkspca.org or call 305-294-4857 in Key West or 305-743-4800 in Marathon.
