Registered sex offender arrested

A 29-year-old North Carolina construction worker wanted for stalking and battery of a 16-year-old Marathon girl was arrested Tuesday.

Jeremy Miguel Anderson has been living in Marathon while working on a construction job.

The case stems from Anderson’s interactions with a young hostess at a Marathon restaurant late last month. The girl told Sheriff’s Office deputies that she doesn’t know Anderson. Anderson put his arm over her and hugged her several times very tightly while placing his head below her chin, almost on her chest. Anderson called her “beautiful” and that he wanted to meet her father. The girl told him no, forcefully, several times and added that her father would not like him. These incidents occurred without the girl’s permission and against her will. Anderson asked if they could exchange numbers. Again, the girl responded, no.

The incidents caused the girl to hide elsewhere in the restaurant until Anderson left.

The girl later positively identified Anderson in photo lineup.

Anderson was convicted in Pitt County, North Carolina in 2011 for indecent liberties with a minor who was 13-years-old when he was 22-years-old.

Anderson is currently registered as a sex offender with the Sheriff’s Office.

He was booked into jail Tuesday afternoon.
