RALLY THE (BAR AND RESTAURANT) TROOPS…

And prepare for Key West’s ultimate showdown — the 25th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bars slated for Sunday, August 5th at noon at Schooner Wharf Bar, raising money for the Boys and Girls Club and Sister Season Fund.

The battle lines are drawn at the foot of William Street, and it’s time for veteran warriors to impart their wisdom to the newly enlisted.

Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their bar. Bartenders, servers and everyone else in the industry must prepare their battle strategy and round up a team of seven.

The highly competitive relay race involves mixing drinks, navigating an obstacle course, tapping a keg, recycling bottles and, of course, skillfully consuming alcohol.

Teams compete against the clock and each other for prizes and bragging rights. All participants get a Battle of the Bars T-shirt. Prizes and trophies are given to the fastest and most accurate teams. There are also awards for most outrageous team costume and deepest pockets, (the team that raises the most money for the charities.) Sign up before July 26th and your team name will be on the shirt. Entry fee is only $35/team.

All’s fair in love and war, especially in Key West, so judges can be bribed and all the money goes to charity. In the past, teams have found innovative ways of raising funds for bribes and for getting into the next round, and last year the total was an outstanding $19,202 for the day.

The event has raised a grand total of $338,954 for local charities. This year’s proceeds will benefit The Southernmost Boys and Girls Club, which provides affordable child care, and Sister Season Fund, which helps local service industry workers.

There will be drink specials throughout the day. The heat of battle, literally, brings everyone to the front lines in August!

To register your team, call 305-292-3302 or e-mail [email protected]. The Entry Form is also on Schoonerwharf.com and Schooner Wharf’s Facebook page.
