STOCK ISLAND, FL – Monroe County is holding a public outreach meeting to provide construction information about a roadway improvement project on Stock Island.

The Monroe County Engineering Department has completed the design. Public input was considered during this phase. The project currently is out to bid for construction. The deadline to receive bids is Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The project will extend along MacDonald, Maloney and Peninsular avenues. Construction is planned to begin in March, with an anticipated completion of January 2020.

The project was designed with sea level rise taken into account. The construction work includes: repaving and/or reconstructing the roadways, new pavement markings, sidewalk improvements with new pedestrian ramps, driveway and drainage improvements and landscaping the median.

The cost of the project will not be known until the construction bidding process is completed. The project is 75% funded by a Small County Outreach Program (SCOP) grant from the Florida Department of Transportation – up to a maximum of $1.95 million. There is a 25% match from the County’s Infrastructure Sales Tax.
