Police Checking for Underage Sales
On February 7th, the Key West Police Department Special Investigations Unit conducted checks of local businesses for compliance with state laws regarding the sale of alcohol, nicotine, and tobacco products to persons under the age of 21. Detectives have received multiple complaints of businesses selling alcohol and vape devices to underage residents.
Using an underage operative, detectives checked ten businesses in Key West.
Nine of the ten were in compliance with state laws.
One business, Vapor World – located at 329 Duval Street — sold a nicotine vape device to the underage operative. Detectives then entered the business and gave clerk Andrei Nikolenko a mandatory notice to appear in court.
Additional business checks will be conducted in the coming weeks.
