PATRIOT DAY: MONROE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE REMEMBERS FIREFIGHTERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES ON SEPT. 11

MONROE COUNTY, FL – September 11 marks the nineteenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the United States which claimed the lives of 2,996 people and injured more than 6,000 others at the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

On September 11, 2001, in addition to law enforcement officers, medical service providers, and other public servants, 343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“For the fire service community, September 11th is a day of remembrance and a day to acknowledge the bold and brave actions of all men and women who make a commitment to public service above personal safety,” said Chief James Callahan. “Monroe County Fire Rescue’s commitment to public service is greatly appreciated by me, the Fire Rescue staff, county administration, and the residents and visitors of the great Florida Keys. Let us never forget.”
