Pair wanted in North Carolina captured in the Keys

Two Carthage, North Carolina residents wanted for multiple felonies including robbery and weapons offenses were arrested in the Upper Keys Tuesday.

Roger Wayne Hawkins, 51, was wanted for robbery, four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, breaking and entering and larceny as well as parole violation.

Melissa Rose James, 45, was wanted for larceny of a firearm and breaking and entering.

The Sheriff’s Office received a be-on-the-lookout for both people in a white Honda with North Carolina tags at approximately 4:06 p.m. Deputies and Detectives spotted and stopped the vehicle near Mile Marker 102.

Approximately eight grams of crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl were found in the car as well as less than a gram of crack cocaine. Assorted pipes were also found as well as prescription medication not prescribed to either individual.

Suspected stolen items were also found, such as power tools and jewelry.

Local charges are pending.

Both were taken to jail.
