One Month Warning—Apply for Sanctuary Advisory Council by February 18

Applications for upcoming vacancies on the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council are due by February 18, 2022. The council represents a wide array of public participation by serving as a liaison between the Florida Keys community and sanctuary superintendent and staff.

“I find working with this body extraordinarily inspiring,” Superintendent Sarah Fangman said during SAC’s December meeting. “We all care about the ocean, but the challenge is figuring out the solutions to the threats facing our sanctuary and implementing them in time. I look forward to working with SAC on these daunting challenges, and remain hopeful we can make a difference.”

Council members serve three-year terms and provide advice about sanctuary operations and projects, while striving to represent the diverse user groups that make up our sanctuary community. Members provide expertise on both the local community and sanctuary resources, strengthen connections with the community, and help build increased stewardship for sanctuary resources.

FKNMS is actively recruiting for 15 openings on its advisory council, including seats for: Citizen at Large: Middle Keys (alternate), Conservation and Environment, Seat 2 of 2 (member and alternate), Education and Outreach (alternate), Fishing: Charter Flats (alternate), Fishing: Commercial Shell/Scale (member and alternate), South Florida Ecosystem Restoration (member and alternate), Submerged Cultural Resources (member and alternate), Tourism: Lower Keys (member and alternate), Tourism: Upper Keys (member and alternate).
