Officer Hesse and Bouvier Earn Lifesaving Award

Officers Joshua Hesse and Kristopher Bouvier and Deputy Chief Randy Smith.

During an awards ceremony at City Hall last week, Officers Joshua Hesse and Kristopher Bouvier were awarded the Key West Police Lifesaving Award, presented by Deputy Chief Randy Smith.

On September 2, 2023, Officer Bouvier was dispatched to Olivia Street in reference to an unconscious and unresponsive man. He was met by a woman who motioned for him to follow her to the unconscious man. Officer Bouvier quickly assessed the patient, determined there was no pulse, and immediately began CPR.

Officer Hesse arrived on scene and began utilizing his AED while Officer Bouvier continued chest compressions. A “no-shock” alert was provided by the AED and Officer Bouvier continued chest compressions. After approximately four minutes of chest compressions Officer Hesse took over CPR until rescue arrived on scene. While enroute to the hospital, the patient regained a pulse. The man was stabilized at the hospital and was expected to make a full recovery.

“The actions of both Officers Bouvier and Hesse contributed to the patient’s survival,” said Smith. “They maintained an extremely calm demeanor, instilling confidence and support to the man’s friends and family members while performing these lifesaving efforts.”
