The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office in Key
West will be conducting a required update to their Advanced Weather
Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) from Monday, May 19th, 2025
through approximately Wednesday, May 21st, 2025. The NWS uses the
AWIPS computer system to display and integrate weather and water
information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather
and marine warnings, to the public.
During the time of the update, forecast operations will be conducted
by NWS Key West staff utilizing our service backup office in Miami
to minimize any potential interruption to services. No impacts to
our core services of forecast products and weather watches, warnings
and advisories are expected during this period. However, limited
impacts will occur to the following services:
* All NOAA Weather Radio transmitters maintained by NWS Key West will
be off air through the time of the install. The weekly test of the
Florida Keys transmitters normally scheduled for Wednesday, May
21st is cancelled.
The transmitters out of service are:

* Several local graphical forecast maps that are hosted on
www.weather.gov will not be updated during the outage. This
includes the Graphical Hazardous Weather Forecast products issued
by NWS Key West.
* Updates to the forecast recording line (305-295-1316) will be
unavailable during the upgrade.
* Some additional data, such as upper air observations, may be
slightly delayed as it is routed through our back-up system.
The forecast office in Key West will remain open and staffed
throughout this period for public and partner phone calls and
additonal functions that can be completed without AWIPS.
