NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS NAMED FOR MONROE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Monroe County School District Superintendent Theresa Axford announced Nanette Murray, Dana Ring and Marissa Means will be the newest Assistant Principals at Horace O’Bryant School and Steve Vinson will move from HOB to join the team at Gerald Adams Elementary as Assistant Principal for the 2023-24 school year.

NANETTE MURRAY

Nanette Murray is an experienced educator who has served as an elementary and middle grades math teacher as well as a K-8 math coach during her 16 year career with the Monroe County School District.  She has served at Horace O’Bryant School and is familiar with the students and the families and is looking forward to returning in her new capacity as assistant principal.

“Nanette Murray’s energy and enthusiasm for students make her an ideal candidate for HOB Assistant Principal.,” stated Axford.  “I know she will give 100% in this role.”

Murray has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Psychology from Bridgewater State College and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from Florida State University.   She has excelled at working with curriculum including the new BEST standards, executing IEP’s for successful instructional delivery and participated in AVID and MTSS training.

“I am so passionate about the students and staff at HOB School and all of the great things this school has to offer to our community,” stated Murray.  “I cannot wait to re-join the Buccaneer team in this new role.”

DANA RING

Dana Ring has also been tapped to be an assistant principal at Horace O’Bryant School.   Ring has an extensive background in many areas that brings a high level of educational expertise to her new role.  She has a Bachelor Degrees in Physical and Health Education/Sports Management from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of University Studies in Elementary Education from the University of Maine.  She earned a Master in Literacy from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Master in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Maine.  During her 23-year career in education she taught Preschool, elementary and served as a Literacy Coach.  Her responsibilities have included leadership roles as a planning team member and a member of the HOB Avid Team as well as modeling instruction for teachers, providing data analysis for school improvement and assisting with school discipline.

“I have enjoyed conversations with Dana Ring about how we support students in the best way possible,” said Superintendent Axford.  “She brings great background to her role as Assistant Principal at HOB. I look forward to seeing the progress at the school with her support.”

MARISSA MEANS

Marissa Means will join the HOB team as assistant principal bringing a strong background in science education and mentor teaching coaching to the role.    Mean’s diverse experience includes serving as a new teacher mentor, academic coach, interventionist, media specialist, and MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) coordinator. In 2021, she took on the role of district STEM & Strategic Health curriculum coordinator, where she played a vital role in shaping curriculum standards and ensuring academic excellence across multiple schools.  Recognized for her expertise and passion for professional development, Marissa has also served as a PD writer and facilitator, empowering fellow educators to enhance their skills and embrace innovative teaching practices.  As a professional development writer and facilitator, she has conducted workshops, coaching cycles, and training sessions, providing valuable insights and guidance to educators seeking to improve their instructional strategies. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida and her Master Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Axford stated, “Marissa Means brings a repertoire of skills to the AP role at HOB.  Her knowledge of instructional delivery is extensive making her an excellent coach for both teachers and students.”

“I am very excited for this opportunity to work with the students and staff at HOB,” stated Means.  “I’m inspired by working collaboratively to explore new educational approaches that support the students to reach their greatest potential.”

STEVE VINSON

Steve Vinson is a 27 year veteran of the Monroe County School District and he will bring his extensive knowledge of elementary curriculum, PBIS, scheduling and leadership skills to Gerald Adams Elementary as the assistant principal.  He will join new principal Melissa Alsobrooks to create next year’s administrative team.  During his career, he has been a high school social studies teacher, student activities director, coach, elementary administrator and K-8 administrator.   Vinson earned his Bachelor Degree from the University of South Florida and a Master in Educational Leadership from Florida State University.

“Steve has a wealth of experience that will be an asset to the students and staff at Gerald Adams Elementary,” stated Axford.  “His knowledge as an administrator and his enthusiasm for working with the elementary students and staff will be instrumental in the continued progress of Gerald Adams Elementary.”
