National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Monroe County, Fla.— National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) is observed each year on February 7 to raise awareness about the impact of HIV on the Black community in the United States.

  • National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a day to address the disproportionate impact of HIV on black communities and to overcome the structural barriers to HIV testing, prevention, and treatment, so we can #StopHIVTogether.
  • In 2018, Black/African American people accounted for 13 percent of the US population, but 42 percent (16,002) of the 37,968 new HIV diagnoses in the United States and dependent areas according to the CDC.
  • Know Your HIV Status. Testing is available at the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County and through our community providers. In-Home Self-Testing Kits are also available.
