Mucarsel-Powell Applauds More Than $4 Million in FEMA Grants for Irma Recovery

FEMA Grants for Monroe County Debris Removal Total Over $17 Million

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), member of the Economic Development, Public Buildings & Emergency Management Subcommittee of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding $4,071,974 to Monroe County and Florida Department of Transportation resulting from Hurricane Irma.

“Hurricane Irma was one of the strongest storm on record to exist in the open Atlantic region. While Irma hit almost two years ago, South Florida has yet to fully recover, so I applaud the federal government’s efforts to continue distributing funds that will help our communities recover from previous storms while preparing for future disasters,” said Mucarsel-Powell.

$2,958,716 in federal funding is being awarded to Monroe County for debris removal as a result of Hurricane Irma. Last month,Mucarsel-Powell announced $14,418,627 in federal grants for debris removal, bringing the total from FEMA awards to more than $17 million.

$1,113,258 in federal funding is being awarded to the Florida Department of Transportation for debris removal as a result of Hurricane Irma.

This funding is authorized under Section 428 of the Robert T. Stafford Act as a result of FEMA-DR-4337-FL (Hurricane Irma). FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the State.  It is the State’s responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-recipients receive these awards.  Following the State’s review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, they will provide funds to the sub-recipients on a reimbursable basis.
