Motorist arrested on multiple violations

A 46-year-old Jefferson City, Missouri woman was arrested Wednesday in Marathon following a traffic stop for possessing 1.7 grams of crack cocaine among other charges.  

Misty Dawn Mitchell was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to register a motor vehicle, not having a license plate tag, operating a vehicle without a court-ordered interlock device, and violating other court-ordered driving restrictions.

Mitchell was stopped in a GMC pickup truck on U.S. 1 near 55th Street at approximately 12:44 a.m. after making an illegal turn that nearly caused a crash. The truck also had no rear bumper; nor was the license plate legally illuminated.

A litany of driving violations due to a previous DUI conviction were found as well as the cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Man and woman arrested on multiple drug charges

A man and woman, both from Miami, Florida, were arrested Wednesday in Marathon following a traffic stop with a litany of drugs, including fentanyl.

William Scott Leiva, 34, was charged with possession of LSD, possession of marijuana, smuggling contraband into a jail facility, and traffic violations. 

Melanie Andrea Aguila, 35, was charged with possession of cocaine laced with fentanyl, possession of LSD, possession of Xanax, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Sheriff’s Office stopped in a Honda sedan on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 47 at approximately 1:30 a.m. having what appeared to be an altered license plate. There was a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Leiva was the driver and Aguila was the passenger.

The following was found:

• 1.6 grams of cocaine that also tested positive for the presence of fentanyl

• A total of 49 combined grams of marijuana and THC oil

• 18 Xanax pills with no prescription

• 2 doses of LSD
