Motorist arrested after fentanyl/drugs found

A 42-year-old Miami, Florida man was arrested following a traffic stop on U.S. 1 Wednesday.

Gerald Lloyd Joseph Benjamin had active warrants for failure to pay child support when he was stopped at approximately 8:08 p.m. near Mile Marker 98 for having an obstructed tag and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

The following were found in the vehicle:

  • Approximately seven grams of fentanyl
  • Approximately 12 grams of ecstasy
  • A scale

Benjamin was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of amphetamines with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Reckless motorcyclist arrested

A 24-year-old Hollywood, Florida motorcyclist was arrested Thursday for traffic and drug violations after he was caught speeding on U.S. 1 — reaching speeds of 95 mph.

Nikolas Charles Diefenbacher was charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

The Sheriff’s Office observed Diefenbacher speeding southbound on the Bahia Honda Bridge at approximately 7:10 a.m. Another motorist reported the reckless motorcyclist near Mile Marker 28. Diefenbacher was observed near Mile Marker 24 to be traveling approximately 95 mph while cutting through bicycle lanes and causing multiple other vehicles to slam on their brakes.

Diefenbacher stopped near Mile Marker 21. Diefenbacher refused to get off the motorcycle and tensed his body. Multiple pills not prescribed to him were found in his possession during a subsequent search.
