Two popular programs at Bayview Park are coming back.

Key West City Commissioners voted unanimously to renew the leases for the twice-monthly free movie program and the weekly farmer’s market.

The outdoor movie was originally allowed on a trial basis in 2014. The subsequent popularity of the event, where attendees bring beach chairs to watch the family-friendly movies, has made the program a winner.

“The Licensee has created and manages a successful venture that has been very well received and patronized by the local community. They have also provided an opportunity for a local non-profit to raise funds for their purposes,” permit coordinator Marilyn Wilbarger told commissioners in her executive summary delivered at the Sept. 7 commission meeting.

Wilbarger gave a similar endorsement for the weekly “Green Market” that operates every Thursday at Bayview Park from 9 am to noon. The market first opened in March 2015.

“The Licensee has made the investment necessary to create and manage a successful Green Market that has been very well received and patronized by the local community. They have donated space on an ongoing basis to local non-profits including Womankind, the Wild Bird Center, Aids Help, and SOS and others as requested,” Wilbarger said.

The Green Market organizer, Whoduz, Inc., will pay $2,500 per month to the city. Movie producer Visualize Entertainment, Inc., will pay the city a fee of $375 per month plus $50 a month to cover utilities and trash/recycling costs. The movie program will run from October to May.
