WHY: The Monroe County Schools English/Language Arts Coordinator Sarah Adams Morton said this program showcases what makes reading special. “Celebrate Literacy week gives students a chance to showcase their literacy talents and simply enjoy reading.”

Superintendent Mark Porter said he believes students learn to read up to a certain age, then they read to learn. “Having the opportunity to share the joys of reading and what it means to be literate with our students is part of our job here in Monroe County Schools. Without the ability to read, there is only a narrow pathway to learning. We want to ensure our students have as wide a pathway to success in education as possible.”
