MONROE COUNTY MAYOR MICHELLE COLDIRON EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES FOR THE PASSING OF COMMISSIONER MIKE FORSTER
MONROE COUNTY, FL – The Monroe County commissioners were informed that Commissioner Mike Forster passed early Monday from complications of COVID-19. Forster’s pastor, Tony Hammon, confirmed the sad news on Facebook.
A statement from Monroe County Mayor Michelle Coldiron:
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we have lost our beloved colleague. Mike passionately gave his all to the Florida Keys. He fed everyone with food, with love, with encouragement, with positive words, and with hugs. He considered us all one Keys family. Mike never said, ‘we can’t do it,’ but always ‘let’s figure out how we can.’ He passionately fought for all to have a quality of life to sustain living in the Keys with housing, fair wages, and protection of the environment. He showed his love for the Keys environment and people with all of his heart and soul. Rest in Peace, my friend.”

Commissioner Mike Forster moved to Monroe County in 1990 and is well known in the Florida Keys as an owner and operator of Mangrove Mike’s Cafe and Catering, established in 1998, Rain Barrel Retail Center (Silent Minority Partner) established in 2010, and most recently Mangrove Mike’s Cafe at Bud & Mary’s Marina.
A resident of Key Largo, he is passionate about his three four-legged pups Kenny, Henry, and Ms. Joy and has recreational interests in fishing, boating, spending time in Everglades National Park, and is proud to participate annually in Uganda Children’s Missions.
Forster was elected to office in the Village of Islamorada and served five terms for 12 years (termed out in 2020). He was appointed mayor twice, vice mayor twice, and also previously served on the Islamorada Chamber Of Commerce Board Of Directors. He was elected to the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners in November 2020.
