MONROE COUNTY, FL — In a recent case, Obby Torres was adjudicated guilty and sentenced by Circuit Judge James Morgan following a no contest plea to Lewd or Lascivious Molestation involving a minor victim.
Judge Morgan sentenced Torres to 48 months in the Florida Department of Corrections, followed by 60 months of sex offender probation. The Court also designated Torres a Sexual Predator and ordered him to pay a total of $1,350.00 in court costs, supervision costs, fines, and statutory assessments.
The conviction arose from a 2022 extensive investigation conducted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation ultimately led to Torres’ arrest and prosecution.
As a designated Sexual Predator under Florida law, Torres will be subject to some of the state’s most stringent monitoring, registration, and reporting requirements. He will also be required to comply with numerous conditions of sex offender probation and restrictions imposed by law and by the Court. Failure to comply with those requirements may result in additional criminal charges and significant additional prison time.
Chief Assistant State Attorney Joseph Mansfield praised the efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors involved in the case.
“Children deserve to grow up free from those who would exploit their trust and vulnerability,” Mansfield said. “This sentence holds the defendant accountable today, and the Sexual Predator designation ensures strict supervision long into the future. The public should understand that these requirements are not optional. If the defendant violates the conditions of his sex offender probation, he could face significant additional prison time. Our office will continue to aggressively pursue those who prey upon children and work to ensure they are held fully accountable for their actions.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Trey Evans.
