MONROE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE STARTS THIRD ‘HOT SHOTS’ TRAINING PROGRAM FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS

GRASSY KEY, FL – The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners continue to support the Monroe County Fire Rescue “Hot Shots” program, which started on Sept. 14 at the Joe London Fire Training Academy on Grassy Key. The program waives the curriculum fee for qualified Monroe County residents to take the firefighting and first responder training in exchange for a commitment to volunteer for three years or work as a career firefighter anywhere in the Florida Keys. For this round, 27 locals and 5 non-locals were admitted into the program with a graduation date set for Dec. 18, 2020.

Students who successfully complete all 17 performance objectives of the firefighter program will be prepared to take the State of Florida Firefighter I and II examinations. Twenty-five local students graduated from the second program in January 2020. To be hired at Monroe County Fire Rescue, a candidate must also complete EMT training.

There are no new classes scheduled at this time. More information about the program can be found at www.monroecounty-fl.gov/hotshots or by emailing [email protected].
