MONROE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE CELEBRATES EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK

MONROE COUNTY, FL – On Wednesday, the Board of Monroe County Commissioners declared May 15-21 as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. EMS is a vital public service, and Monroe County Fire Rescue is always ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The County celebrates its first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers.

“Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury,” said Monroe County Fire Rescue Chief Steve Hudson. “We thank all EMS personnel for their service and sacrifices. They play a huge role in protecting the community we live in every day, and their contributions are very appreciated.”

Emergency medical services fills a gap by providing crucial pre-hospital care, including preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine. Members of EMS engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills.
