BERLIN, GERMANY – Monroe County Administrator Roman Gastesi, 58, trained for and completed the 26.2-mile Berlin Marathon on Sept. 29 in Berlin, Germany.
“The good news, I finished and beat 16,500 people,” said Gastesi. “The bad news is 29,500 people beat me.”
This is Gastesi’s second marathon, completing the New York Marathon in 2003. He has plans to complete a marathon on all seven continents. He joined a running group called the Seven Continents Club that has had to date 527 men and 263 women who completed the exclusive distance on all seven continents. Gastesi plans to run his next marathon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in South America in June 2020 followed by Singapore in Southeast Asia in December 2020.
“Health and wellness are very important to me,” said Gastesi. “I hope this will motivate our Monroe County employees to try something exciting, like one of our great 5K’s around town.”
The County has a “Passport to Wellness” program that encourages staff members to participate in local races, even reimbursing up to $100 annually for community-organized foot, bicycle, or swimming events.
