Missouri man dies snorkeling

A Missouri man died while snorkeling Monday.

69 year old Owen Holmes of Ozark, Missouri was visiting the Keys with family. He was on board a boat operated by Starfish Snorkeling in Marathon. They were in the water offshore of Marathon near Sombrero Lighthouse when Holmes began to have problems. He was brought on board the boat where the crew began administering CPR. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to their location and transported Holmes to shore. He was taken to Fishermen’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Holmes had a number of medical conditions. There was no sign of trauma or injury visible. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death. Major Crimes Detective Bernardo Barrios has been assigned to the case.
