The Monroe County State’s Attorney’s Office announces that Michael Woodruff, age 47, has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison after being found guilty of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12. Judge Mark Jones imposed this sentence, requiring that Woodruff serve the full 25 years without any chance of early release. After completing his prison term, Woodruff will also be placed on lifetime probation with electronic monitoring and is required to pay $6,032.00 in court costs.
The case stems from incidents in Monroe County during the summer of 2008, when Woodruff, then 31, committed the offense for which he was ultimately convicted. This case first came to light in 2012 after the victim, residing in Pennsylvania, disclosed the abuse during a counseling session. Law enforcement from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Pennsylvania State Police, conducted a thorough investigation to bring justice to the survivor.
“This conviction and sentence brings a painful chapter to a close for the survivor and her family, who have shown immense courage and resilience throughout this process,” said Chief Assistant State Attorney Joseph Mansfield. “The case was complex, and the victim’s strength in sharing her story allowed us to ensure accountability and safety for others in our community.”
State Attorney Dennis Ward also emphasized the importance of prosecuting cases of this nature, saying, “My office is committed to seeking justice for the most vulnerable among us—our children. No child should endure such trauma, and we will continue our mission to hold offenders accountable and protect our communities.”
The Monroe County State’s Attorney’s Office would like to thank all law enforcement and support services who contributed to this case, as well as the victim and her family, who exhibited bravery in the pursuit of justice. We remain steadfast in our commitment to prosecuting offenses against children and ensuring that those responsible are held to the fullest extent of the law.
