MENTAL WELLNESS AT FOREFRONT OF MONROE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT’S WELCOME BACK

WHO:   District employees, special guest speaker

WHAT: More than 1,000 district employees will gather for a ‘Welcome Back’ mental wellness training. District staff members will participate in programming highlighting what it means to “Be the One” personally and professionally. The orientation will include information on mental health awareness and equity awareness. All district personnel are required to attend the training which will include a special guest speaker.

Superintendent Mark Porter said he hopes this will be an uplifting and informative event for staff to take back to their buildings and out into their communities. “We are all aware in the Florida Keys of the events that have had lasting effects in the past year. Hurricane Irma and the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland have pointed to issues we prioritize in the district already. Addressing issues like safety and mental wellness for all students and staff is an ongoing and collaborative process. We know offering this training will emphasize just how pivotal a role we individually play in prioritizing these issues, and how we can continue to feel empowered to get the work done.”
