Men’s Health Month

Mayor Teri Johnston and the Key West City Commission have proclaimed June as Men’s Health Month.

The proclamation points out that, despite advances in medical technology and research, men continue to live an average of five years less than women. It notes as well that Native American and African American men have the lowest life expectancy. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control reports that males are more likely to die from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The proclamation is a means to educate the public and health care providers about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and early detection of male health problems. Knowledge can result in reducing rates of mortality from disease.
