She may not have been born on the island, but it’s difficult to imagine a local Realtor with more of a connection to Key West.
Originally from a “big, close, Italian family in Harlem,” Camille Toler first visited Key West in 1975, and liked it so much she returned here to live two years later. A professional singer/musician, she took to the island lifestyle like a duck to water, and soon was helping the famed Shel Silverstein record his demos, singing in local clubs, and performing in the theater.
Toler can even be seen riding her bike in the iconic 1978 film “The Key West Picture Show.”
I came here in ’77 and knew then that this would be my home, as many feel when they experience this special island,” Toler said. “I still have such cherished memories of the old Key West days.”
Toler had two children in Key West, but also spent some years in Colorado where she worked as the sales manager for local and national TV advertisers with major cable networks, in the resort markets of Aspen, Glenwood Springs and Vail.
Back in Key West in 2006, Toler decided to try her hand at real estate, and the results have been great. As a residential broker associate now with Keller Williams Compass Realty she is excited to continue selling and finding properties from Old Town to Cudjoe Key.
From decades spent on the island, Toler possesses industry knowledge and insight into the local market. She has been a member of the Key West Association of Realtors since her real estate career began, and found in this vocation another passion in life.
My profession through the years has been singing engagements in both Colorado and Key West,” Toler said. “But I really do love the business of real estate.”
The multi-talented Toler enjoys painting in her spare time. She also gets a kick out of going to music clubs to hear the next generation of minstrels, including her singer/guitarist son Chris Toler, whom she calls “one of Key West’s finest musicians.” She’s also very proud of her daughter Erika Butters, a featured singer on Holland America Cruise Line ships for the past eight years.
What I like most about selling real estate is meeting and establishing relationships with people who come here, fall in love with this island and want to be a part of it,” Toler said. “Often they become friends, long after we’re finished doing business. And at other times I will help people by listing their property and selling it so that they can move on to other adventures in life. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than helping people live out their dreams.”
