Meet the Realtors: Bascom L. Grooms IV

Of all the Realtors in Key West, few can match Bascom L. Grooms IV’s unique local family history.

“My great-grandfather moved to Key West in 1908,” Grooms said. “And served as the president of the Key West Electric Company for many years. But he was also the president of the Key West Chamber of Commerce in 1927, which I also did, in 2008. He was also the president of the Rotary Club of Key West, in 1928. It’s really odd, because I never really knew the guy.”

Be that as it may, a photo exists of four generations of Bascom Grooms, including the great-grandfather, taken when the current Grooms was just a few months old.

It’s another “Grooms family fact,” the title of a radio advertising campaign which aired on U.S. 104.1 FM. Some years ago.

Grooms began his real estate career in Key West in 1997, and enjoyed it so much that he earned his broker’s license and opened Bascom Grooms Real Estate in 1999.

His company is a top producing independent boutique real estate office, and Grooms himself has consistently been one of the top producing agents in Key West. He has been featured on HGTV’s House Hunters showcasing his buyers finding their home in paradise, and was voted Key West’s No. 1 Realtor two years running, by a local newspaper.

In 2015 Grooms closed 50 real estate transactions and sold over $23 million worth of area properties. He was ranked No. 4 in Key West in closed sales and No. 7 in the Florida Keys, out of nearly 1,000 Realtors.

In addition to his stints at the helms of the Key West Chamber and Rotary Clubs, Grooms has also served as the president of the Key West Association of Realtors, and volunteers his time to many boards and committees, such as the American Youth Soccer Association, and the Basilica School of St. Mary Star of the Sea.

He is an avid golfer, and enjoys nothing more than playing 18 holes when he has time.

A committed family man, Grooms also enjoys spending time with his wife, and two daughters, aged 12 and 14.
