Meet the newest member of the Key West Police Department Special Investigations Unit, K-9 Cayo!

Cayo, pronounced (kah-yoh), is named after our very own city of Key West, the city he is sworn to protect. Spanish settlers originally called Key West Cayo Hueso, which translates to Bone Island.

Cayo is a 62-pound black Labrador retriever. He will turn two years old on December 7th. He and his handler recently completed an intensive five week narcotics detection training program, earning certification from the International Forensic Research Institute. They are ready to get drugs off the streets. Cayo is loyal and eager to please, traits that suit him perfectly as a Police K9!
