Mayor Danise “Deedee” Henriquez and City Manager Brian L. Barroso attended a recent Key West Police awards ceremony to personally commend each of the department’s members who, on January 23rd, responded to the deadly fire at 1010 Emma Street.

“Despite the heroic efforts of these professional men and women, four members of the resident family eventually lost their lives,” said Mayor Henriquez in the Commendation. “These professional, dedicated first responders went above and beyond in their effort to quell the fire quickly and administer aid to the victims. Each and every one is to be commended for devotion to duty in the most difficult of circumstances.”

Those honored are: Capt. Bradley Lariz, Lt. Joseph Stockton, Detective Leo Hernandez, Sgt. David Kouri, Officers Alyson Burns, Thomas Anglin, Madilyn Flores, Cameron Ua, Jeremiah Osborne, Ivan Golovanov, Michael Beerbower, Corey Vanderhoof, Sean Davis, Jack Gruba, Erik Roberts, and Katie Hansell, as well as dispatchers Keith Kline, Kristi Chaustit, Belen Diaz and Sarah Paez.

The Mayor, City Commissioner and City Manager recognized all of the first responders involved at a recent City Commission meeting.

At that meeting, Barroso adamantly recognized “the amazing effort, collaboration, and courageous action by the Police Department, Fire Department, Red Cross, St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Basilica, Monroe County School District, Key West Transit, The Housing Authority, Citizens of Key West and related agencies that came together in the City’s time of need.”

He is personally delivering these commendations to everyone involved in the effort.
