Matecumbe Historical Trust – Memorial Day Service   

The Matecumbe Historical Trust will hold their annual Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 28th starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Florida Keys Memorial known locally as the Islamorada Hurricane Monument, Mile Marker 81.8 Overseas Highway.

Barbara Edgar, President of the Matecumbe Historical Trust will make the introductory welcome presentation followed by the invocation by Pastor Tony Hammon of Island Community Church, Presentation of Colors by Boy Scout Troop 912 and Honor Guard Paul Mosczynski, the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Glenn Taylor and the Islamorada Fire Department, the National Anthem, Recognition of special guest, Guest Speakers State Representative Holly Raschein followed by Islamorada Mayor Chris Sante, a brief history of the Hurricane Monument, a presentation by Henry Rosenthal, the laying of the memorial wreath, Taps, America the Beautiful and Proud to be an American sung by Country Western recording artist Dan.Furmanik followed by the benediction by Pastor Bob Pavey of the Matecumbe Methodist Church.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend in observance of Memorial Day.  The wreath is sponsored by Centennial Bank.
