Mariner rescued by good Samaritans

A 25-year-old Miami-Dade County, Florida boater was rescued by two paddle boarders off Key Largo on Monday.

The victim was in a small boat in nearshore, bayside waters near Mile Marker 95 at approximately 12 p.m. when he was swamped by high waves.

He was unable to swim to shore when two good Samaritans from a nearby property heard him and launched paddle boards.

The boater was taken to Mariners Hospital for evaluation, but no life-threatening injuries were reported.

Man arrested for larceny  

A Homestead, Florida construction business owner was arrested Monday for promising and accepting payment for work that was partially completed or not at all.

Maykel Ramos was charged with larceny and fraud.

The Sheriff’s Office began investigating in 2023 and revealed that Ramos stole a total of approximately $20,000 from multiple victims/property owners in Key Largo.
