Marathon Airport Welcomes New Airport Manager Mike Legere
MARATHON, FL – The Florida Keys Marathon International Airport and Monroe County Airport Director Richard Strickland welcomed Michael Legere, the new Marathon airport manager, on his first day Tuesday.
Legere joins the Marathon airport from Manchester, New Hampshire, where he was the Manager of Airport Operations and Facilities. He was chosen for the position by a panel of four, including Monroe County Administrator Roman Gastesi, Strickland, Marathon Chamber of Commerce CEO Daniel Samess, and Marathon City Councilman “Doc” Dan Zieg.
With an airport operations background starting in 1996, Legere said his main goal for Marathon airport is to continue to meet all Federal Aviation Administration requirements and to continue to hold safety in the highest regard.
“The new manager is full of knowledge that he can share with the existing staff,” said Strickland. “His background with repairs, inspections, and maintenance will be invaluable to the operations at Marathon airport.”
Legere is also no stranger to weather emergencies coming from snowy conditions and has dealt with his fair share of wind issues as well. “The most important thing is for the airport personnel to be ready for weather, and for us to be able to quickly respond,” said Legere.
