Man with gun arrested for assault

A 37-year-old Big Pine Key man was arrested early Friday morning for shooting a handgun into the ground near his wife and then pointing the gun at her.

Brendan Alexander Stone was charged with aggravated assault, improper display of a firearm, shooting a firearm in a public or residential property and use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

Lower Keys Sgt. David Lariz and Deputies Ty Torres and Brandon White responded to the Breezy Pines RV Estates trailer park at 12:36 a.m. regarding a shots fired call. They met 36-year-old female victim upon arrival who was sitting inside a vehicle near lot 28. She stated the suspect, identified as Stone, was in the trailer. She stated Stone pointed a gun at her and fired a shot into the ground.

The Deputies approached the trailer and yelled for Stone to exit. Stone exited and was placed into custody without incident.

The victim stated Stone arrived home drunk and an argument ensued outside the trailer before Stone went inside to retrieve the gun. Stone came back outside and fired the gun. She stated she feared for her safety. She stated she believed Stone would shoot her. She stated she ran inside the trailer, retrieved her personal items and then got inside her vehicle to leave. She stated that she saw Stone aim the gun at her vehicle while she was inside the vehicle.

Two neighbors told Deputies they were awoken by a single gunshot about the same time the woman stated the incident occurred.

A spent .380-caliber shell casing was found about five feet from where the woman stated the incident occurred. The woman allowed Deputies into the trailer to find the handgun used in the incident. The firearm was found in the living room area. The woman identified it as the gun used in the incident. There were four bullets in the magazine and one in the chamber.

Stone was taken to jail.
