Man who falsely claimed he was robbed by dancers arrested for false report

A 58-year-old Islamorada man who accused two adult entertainment dancers of putting a pistol to his head and robbing him of $3,000 was arrested Friday afternoon for lying to law enforcement.

Alejandro Luis Dewelde was charged with making a false report/knowingly giving law enforcement false information regarding an alleged crime.

The case began on Feb. 16 when Dewelde told 9/11 Communications Specialists that he was robbed at gunpoint by two women who stole, $2,500 in cash and a Rolex watch. When Sgt. Robert Dosh arrived on scene, Dewelde changed his story and said one of the women put a Glock pistol to his head while the other stole $3,000. Dewelde never mentioned the Rolex to detectives henceforth. Dewelde said he met both alleged robbers at a local adult entertainment business, where the two women are employed. Dewelde claimed he invited one of the women back to his residence whereupon they had sex. Dewelde claimed she put the pistol to his head while they were in bed, when the other woman he had been speaking to back at the business stormed in and took the $3,000. Dewelde claimed the second woman fled whilst he briefly gave chase.

Detective Ben Elmore was assigned to investigate. Both female dancers were located and both gave separate, but similar accounts of the incident: Dewelde was at the business intoxicated in the early morning hours and offered one of the women some fresh fish back at his houseboat. That woman asked the other woman to accompany her as he was not comfortable going alone. Both women said they arrived to find another man present as well as Dewelde. Both said Dewelde began acting aggressive and became increasingly upset while looking for something. The women stated Dewelde never stated what he was looking for. Both stated they were only at the houseboat for about 30 minutes and left due to their fears given Dewelde’s behavior. Both said they did not go to the houseboat to have sex. Both denied having sex with Dewelde. Both denied having a gun. Both stated they saw only Dewelde opening drawers and touching things inside the houseboat. Both denied taking anything from the houseboat.

Detective Elmore obtained quality security camera footage of the houseboat. The footage showed Dewelde inviting both women inside the houseboat. It also showed another man present. It also shows both women leaving the property after about 30 minutes. The footage did not show them fleeing while Dewelde gave chase as he had initially claimed.

Dewelde told Detective Sgt. Scott Ward later in the investigation that he was drunk at the time of the incident and perhaps the one woman didn’t have a Glock pistol and that it could have been a phone. Detective Elmore told Dewelde that the camera footage shows both women arriving together and that they were greeted by Dewelde and that the footage refutes his statements as to how the women arrived and how they left. Dewelde then stated he was drunk and didn’t how the women arrived.

Detective Elmore asked Dewelde what really happened to the money and Dewelde stated he didn’t know, adding that, “it just wasn’t there.”

A warrant was issued for Dewelde’s arrest.

He was booked into jail on Friday.
