Man dies after snorkel trip

A 53-year-old Englewood, Florida man died after being removed from the water during a snorkel trip in the Lower Keys Tuesday.

Kale Dailey was snorkeling in Sawyer Channel with a group of people at approximately 11:24 a.m. and stated he was not feeling well while in the water and wanted to return to the private vessel.

His condition worsened and others helped him to the boat whereupon 911 was called.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded and brought Dailey ashore to Blimp Road on Cudjoe Key.

Dailey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Foul play is not expected to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.

Autopsy results are pending.


Man arrested after pursuit

A 32-year-old man in a stolen vehicle was arrested Tuesday after a pursuit in Miami-Dade County ended in the Upper Keys.

Kyle Harvey Carter was charged with fleeing and eluding and grand theft auto.

The Sheriff’s Office was alerted at approximately 3:30 p.m. that a pickup truck previously reported stolen in Monroe County was southbound on the 18-Mile Stretch. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol began pursuing the suspect vehicle when the vehicle entered Monroe County.

The suspect vehicle was successfully spiked by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and it stopped near Mile Marker 102.

Carter was taken into custody at that time.
