Man cited for undersized snapper

A 20-year-old Miami man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court Friday morning for possessing 14 undersized mangrove snapper.

Julian Francisco Paret was fishing on the 79000 block of the Overseas Highway in Islamorada with a 15-year-old juvenile at approximately 11:19 a.m. when both were approached by Lt. Chuck Kellenberger.

Lt. Kellenberger informed them they were on private property and needed to leave. He then inspected their catch, finding the 14 undersized mangrove snapper.

Paret stated he didn’t know how big the fish were supposed to be. The minimum size for mangrove snapper is 10 inches.

The fish were all returned to the water dead.

The juvenile was not cited.
