Man cited for undersized fish

A 23-year-old Homestead man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation on Monday after he was found to be in possession of an undersized mutton snapper.

Upper Keys Marine Deputy Nelson Sanchez was on patrol on the Whale Harbor Bridge at approximately 3:10 p.m. when he found a man untangling fishing line.

Deputy Sanchez asked the man, later identified as Omar Martinez Lopez, if he had caught any fish, which Lopez answered in the affirmative.

A check of his cooler turned up a mutton snapper that measured 12.5 inches, below the mandatory 18 inches to legally harvest.
