Man cited for possessing conch

A 45-year-old Laurinburg, North Carolina man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation Tuesday for illegally harvesting queen conch and a rainbow parrotfish.

Deputy Brandon Ware Rogers was on patrol near Mile Marker 62 at approximately 12:10 a.m. when he approached Tung Viet Nguyen.

Two live queen conch and a dead rainbow parrotfish were found to be in Nguyen’s possession.

It is illegal to harvest queen conch. Parrotfish must be kept alive to be harvested and require specific saltwater license endorsements, which Nguyen lacked.

Nguyen was cited for both violations.
