Man cited for illegal fish

A 55-year-old Hialeah man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation Saturday for possessing illegally harvested mangrove snapper.

Deputy Jason Farr was on patrol at the Tavernier Creek Bridge where he observed a man fishing.

The man’s cooler contained 12 snapper under the legal size limit of 10 inches.

Angel Aguirre was cited for possession of undersized mangrove snapper and possession of seven over the bag limit mangrove snapper.

Man arrested for incident involving disabled person

A 63-year-old Bethany Beach, Delaware man was arrested Saturday for fondling himself while inappropriately touching a mentally disabled man.

Courtney Eric Barry was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, battery and disorderly conduct.

Deputies were called to Stock Island Marina Village at approximately 9:40 p.m. regarding a suspicious person.

Several witnesses reported seeing Barry touching himself while placing his hand on the victim’s face and shoulder.

The victim also stated Barry touched him on the face and shoulder.

Barry was still at the scene when Deputies arrived.

Barry was taken to jail.


Scam alert regarding letters in the mail   

The Sheriff’s Office is notifying residents of a scam letter that has been reported in Monroe County.

The letter arrives via regular mail, but the scam is familiar: An unknown person claims an unknown distant relative of the reader has died and left millions for the reader to claim.

In this case the letter is labeled “Natixis Beyond Banking” and is authored by someone named “Mr. Abrar Kiani.”

The letter claims the reader is entitled to $18,764,000 and to email “[email protected]” for further instruction.

One letter viewed by the Sheriff’s Office was mailed from Canada.
