Man arrested in stolen car after fleeing
A man was taken into custody Friday morning after fleeing from Deputies in a stolen car.
The Sheriff’s Office received information at approximately 9:30 a.m. that a stolen car could be heading into the Keys.
The car was quickly found southbound on U.S. 1, but the driver did not stop after a brief pursuit that ended at Mile Marker 101 when the driver stopped, jumped out and fled on foot.
Two female passengers in the car remained at the scene and are currently not facing charges.
A perimeter was set up involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The suspect driver was found and arrested shortly thereafter as citizens called in and reported his whereabouts.
The suspect will face fleeing and alluding and grand theft of a motor vehicle charges.
Other charges may be pending.
The Sheriff’s Office will release more information as it becomes available.
