Man arrested in stabbing incident

A 22-year-old Big Coppitt Key man was arrested Sunday afternoon after stabbing another man.

Wilkin Yoel Valera was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.

There were no life-threatening injuries reported.

Deputy Freddy Rodriguez responded to the 300 block of Avenue E at 2:43 p.m. where he found a female who stated Valera tried to her husband. Valera was still on scene was placed into custody after a knife was found in his waistband. The husband or male victim returned to the scene. A small puncture wound was discovered on his bicep.

The victims/couple stated they came over to the house to visit a roommate of Valera’s when Valera exited his room wearing only underwear. The male victim stated Valera was told it was disrespectful to walk around in his underwear in front of a woman/house guests, but Valera continued to walk around in his underwear.

The couple/victims confronted Valera outside the residence as he was leaving regarding his behavior and a ruckus ensued, which ended when Valera brandished a knife and began making stabbing motions while the couple/victims attempted to disarm him. Eventually, the male victim decided to leave the scene to deescalate the situation.

Valera was taken to jail.
