Man arrested in domestic battery

A 36-year-old Conch Key man was arrested Tuesday night after he assaulted his girlfriend who reportedly jumped from a second floor Conch Key hotel balcony in an effort to flee from him.

There were no life-threatening injuries reported.

Erik James Brown was charged with two counts of battery, property damage, robbery and obstructing justice.

Deputy Victor Cristea responded to a residence on Duck Key at 10:26 p.m. where he met with a 20-year-old girlfriend of Brown as well as two witnesses/good Samaritans who intervened. They subsequently drove the female from Conch Key to Duck Key. The victim declined medical assistance.

The victim stated she was previously at Bay View Inn and Marina on Conch Key with her boyfriend — Brown. She stated she and Brown had been residing together at the hotel. She stated Brown had been drinking. She said that she went to speak to Brown who was with his friends in his hotel room. She asked to speak with Brown in private when he became enraged. Brown pulled her by the hair down against the concrete. Brown was saying things such as, “B****, if I tell you to come, you listen.” Deputy Cristea observed a lump on top of the victim’s head. The woman stated she ran upstairs as Brown pursued her. She stated she then jumped from the balcony to escape Brown. Deputy Cristea observed scratches and cuts to the woman’s thigh and knuckles.

She stated that other men on the scene attempted to help her when Brown yelled at them to not help or touch, “his *****.” Brown then got into a fight with one of the men attempting to help the victim. The victim then ran to a parking lot where she saw the man and woman who ultimately drove her to Duck Key.

Deputy Cristea then interviewed the man and woman. Both stated they pulled into the parking lot to see the victim jumping from the balcony. Brown threatened to kill the intervening woman and smashed her cell phone as she tried to call 911.

Deputy Cristea then went to Conch Key to find Brown leaving in a boat.

Deputies Kyle Chandler, Garrett Bragg and J.C. Marino all responded in the following hours thereafter in an effort to find and arrest Brown.

Brown was taken into custody at approximately 1:45 a.m. Wednesday by Deputies at his Bay View Inn room.

Brown was taken to jail.
