Man arrested for shooting firearm while intoxicated

A report of shots fired this morning led to the arrest of a Key Largo man for shooting guns while intoxicated.

Sheriff’s dispatchers received a report just after 4 a.m on 30th March. The caller reported hearing two sets of six gunshots in the vicinity of Glendale Drive. When Deputy Christopher Kilmurray arrived in the area, he heard more gunshots. Deputies Annette Simo and Cody Kerns arrived to assist.

They began searching the area at the end of Glendale Drive when they saw a man walking out of a wooded area; they then saw a second person hiding in some bushes nearby. They confronted the men, asking what they were doing there. One of the men, 26 year old Lucas Confer, admitted to having two guns in his pockets. They were not loaded, but he admitted to shooting the guns in the woods. A pipe with the odor of marijuana was also found in his pocket; he admitted to smoking marijuana and to drinking alcohol.

Confer was arrested. He was charged with discharging a firearm while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia. Once at the jail, a small bag of marijuana was found in his pocket so he was further charged with introduction of contraband into a jail facility.

The other man was not arrested.
