Man arrested for sexual assault

A 24-year-old Rockland Key man was arrested Thursday for having sex with a 16-year-old girl.

Yobani Carlos Valle was charged with sexual assault and providing alcohol to a person under 21.

The case began on April 17 when Key West Police notified the Sheriff’s Office that the victim told them the crimes were committed in Monroe County.

The victim told Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit Detective Rosa DiGiovanni that she made plans to go swimming with Valle on Sugarloaf Key on April 13 along with another underage girl and two men. She stated the two older males present — Valle and a 20-year-old man reportedly from Miami — first acquired some marijuana from Duval Street and then they all went to a Ocean’s Edge Key West Resort & Marina, 5950 Peninsular Ave., Stock Island, where the males rolled the marijuana into marijuana cigarettes. Valle had previously bought some Bud Light® beer for the two underage females, which the victim reportedly drank.

The victim stated that after swimming, she and Valle went back to the hotel room and had sexual intercourse. The victim stated it was not the first time they have had sexual intercourse.

Multiple interviews were thus conducted and the State Attorney’s Office was notified. A warrant was issued on May 2 for Valle with a bail of $10,000 for providing alcohol to a minor and a bail of $250,000 for the sexual assault for a total bail of $260,000.

Valle was booked into jail the next day.

The case remains under investigation. More charges/arrests may be pending.
